A Pilgrimage of Arrival
Licensing Day 12/10/07

Join Harold Stephens, the new Team rector for part or all of the day as he walks the length of the Team area to meet and share with as many as possible.

Each stage on the way will be marked with some form of worship and also the opportunity to meet to chat and to get to know each other a little.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  Timings will be subject to some flexibility!
           


Stage 1:  St Andrew’s, West Stafford – 8.30 a.m.

Morning Prayer (Common Worship Daily Prayer) and then coffee (possibly) and chat.
Then we set off with a prayer for a pilgrim.  Those wishing to walk are very welcome to do so.

Walking: Footpath leading to the River Frome and on into Fordington


Stage 2:  St George’s Fordington – 10.15 a.m.

Reflections in a time of hope ((Adapted from a liturgy from the Iona Community) followed by a time for discussion and reflection at the start of this new ministry.  Possibly some refreshment as we again set off.

Walking:  from Fordington to Manor Park First School


Stage 3:  Manor Park First School – 11.15 a.m.

Meet greet and say hello – informal and unstructured time
but with a symbolic act of greeting and meeting.




Stage 4: St Osmund’s Middle School – 11.45 a.m.


Meet, greet etc. – as for Manor Park School.

Walking to town centre, along South Street to St. Peter's.
As midday strikes – pause for reflection and Angelus


Stage 5: St. Peter's. – 1 p.m.

Midday prayer (Common Worship Daily Prayer) followed by an informal time to discuss and reflect and greet.  Lunch (picnic) plus tea/coffee if available.

Walking:  south (Weymouth Avenue) to Winterborne Monkton


Stage 6:  SS Simon and Jude, Winterborne Monkton – 3.30 p.m.

Short evening prayer (Common Worship, Daily Prayer) Includes discussion of selected Biblical passage; Isaiah 52. 7-10 (Set as Old Testament reading for Mass of St Wilfred whose feast day this is).  Followed by an informal time to meet and chat.

Walking north back into town and to St Mary the Virgin – Edward Road.


Stage 7. St Mary the Virgin. – 5.30 p.m.

Closing liturgy of the pilgrimage (again adapted from the Iona Community’s liturgy) followed by a period of silence in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament closing with the Divine Praises & Psalm 117 (Pilgrim Prayer Book, page 117) and conclusion..

Then the licensing Eucharist which takes place at 7.30 p.m.

Warning for walkers: to try to keep to time some of the walking will be reasonably “brisk”.  Whatever the weather we shall go – come with appropriate kit if you intend to walk at all.
