Dorchester Deanery Children's Group - Letter
12th June, 2004
Dear <name>
I write to you as <name of parish>’s Representative for two reasons. Initially,
you may or may not be aware that, to date, our Chairperson, Allen Knott, has
raised an impressive £1,051.82 through sales of his poetry book ‘And Another
Thing!’. Allen chose to dedicate the book to ‘Sunday School teachers who give so
much of their time and talent’ and true to his word, he would like the proceeds
to further the valuable children’s work that is done by yourself and others in
the local area.
A proportion of the money will help to fund future Deanery events, the remainder
will be given out to Parishes to assist in their mission with children and young
people. Grants of between £60 and £70 will therefore be awarded to selected
parishes in the Deanery. This money can then be used however you, the Deanery
Representative for your parish, see fit; be it to pay for a kids’ outing, train
Sunday School Leaders, purchase resources for your children’s group or indeed,
anything else! If you would be interested in receiving a sum of money for your
Church, please apply in writing, (stating what you propose to use the funds
for), to: Allen Knott, 8, Augustan Close, DORCHESTER, DT1 2QU by Saturday, 31st
July.
I would also like to seek your assistance in helping to advertise in < name of
parish > a forthcoming Deanery Children’s Event taking place at Sunninghill
Preparatory School, South Walks, Dorchester from 3–5 p.m. on Sunday, 11th July.
‘You Can Come Too!’ (posters and flyers enclosed) is an event for EVERYONE with
the intention of being both a fun and worshipful afternoon. All those attending
are encouraged to bring a picnic tea and, following the fun and games, the
afternoon will climax with an act of worship at 4.30 p.m.
I shall take the liberty of telephoning you in a couple of weeks to clarify that
you have received this letter and are comfortable with the advertising, but, in
the meantime, should you require more publicity materials or need further
information for anyone in your Parish do please get in touch. We would be
grateful to hear from you if you are able to help on the day, but, if you’d
rather simply turn up and enjoy the afternoon that would be just fine and we
look forward to seeing you there.
With many thanks and best wishes
Lauretta Kerridge
(on behalf of Dorchester Deanery Children’s Group)
