About our Workshop Leaders
David Ogden
David is well known as a conductor and composer. He is much in demand as a conductor and director of choral and church music workshops, courses and festivals in the UK and abroad. His unique mix of highly skilled music-making, inspirational teaching and leadership and sense of humour makes him an extremely popular choice for workshops of all kinds.. He is Director of Music at Westbury-on-Trym parish church in Bristol and is also a Special Advisor for the Royal School of Church Music.
Trevor Jarvis
Trevor is on the staff of the Royal School of Church Music in Salisbury. He runs a number of workshops on choir training, conducting and cantoring skills, as well as sessions on plainsong and psalm-singing through the ages.
Paul Taylor
The Venerable Paul Taylor has been Archdeacon of Sherborne since 2004. Prior to this he was a parish priest in north London and has wide experience of music in parishes with very different resources. Before ordination he was a organist and choirmaster of a north London church. Music in the Eucharist will explore a range of music for various parts of the liturgy taking into account different contexts and resources. Music for Evening Prayer will concentrate on how to enrich the Office through the use of simple music and with limited resources
Chris Moorsom & Steve Ball
Both Chris and Stephen are parish priests in Salisbury Diocese, (Upper Stour and The Canalside Benefice respectively). Both have a strong musical background, but of a very different kind. Chris is an Oxford music graduate, choral and solo singer (Bass), plays keyboard, violin, runs the local church choir; and writes hymn tunes and other pieces for worship. Stephen is a former member of the 'Fisherfolk', plays acoustic and bass guitar, sings and has written worship songs and simple choral pieces for his church choir. His experience includes training worship bands. They have worked together in the past and are committed to enabling church music of all kinds and traditions to flourish, particularly in the parish context. Both are members of the Diocesan ‘Music in Worship Day’ planning group, which Chris has chaired for 10 years. They first met at a Millers Pie Factory in Poole in their “gap” year!
Glyn Bush & Ralph Cree
Magic Drum provides drumming workshops and rhythm-based training for school, community and corporate clients across the South of England. Magic Drum partners Glyn Bush and Ralph Cree are skilled workshop facilitators with a wealth of experience as teachers and professional musicians, with expert knowledge of Samba, Brazilian and African rhythms and the music of Cuba and Jamaica.
David Bruce-Payne
Since moving to Weymouth in 2003 David Bruce-Payne has been involved in working with choirs, choral groups as a conductor, singer and organist. He looks forward to helping assemble ideas for writing music, with those who want to experiment with their interests and ideas in the composition of church music. The composition option is designed to help participants set out an appropriate musical item which might be used by in the day’s final assembly.
Robert Fielding
Robert is Director of Music at Romsey Abbey and the Church Music Adviser for the Diocese of Salisbury. He also directs the diocesan Certificate in Church Music and pipe-up!, the diocesan initiative to promote the organ to young musicians. His workshops today will cover basic technique, stylistic playing and registration.
