Dorchester Parish Website Meeting

Tuesday 27th April 2004 at 7:30 p.m. at 4 Shaston Crescent

Minutes

Present: Patricia Bowen (PB), Richard Cox (RC) and Mike Morgan (MM), representing St Peter’s, met to help Richard improve the Dorchester Parish website. Jean Saddington, St Mary’s representative, was not able to attend due to work commitments.

The advantages and disadvantages of changing the website domain were discussed. The only real advantage of changing would be to increase the space available, but it was felt that the size was not a problem as it was simple to add links to include other bodies, for example the parishes of West Stafford and Winterborne Monkton. PB undertook to contact Donald Binney at West Stafford and ask whether they were interested in participating.

The purpose of the website was discussed. It was felt that the main users would be people in the Parish and people visiting the area, who wanted more information about the history of the churches and the times of services. It was agreed that Pews News would only be on the site for two weeks, as they quickly become out-of-date. Times of services and names of church officials would be included. Rotas would be useful for people in the parish and if they are sent to RC, he will install them.

Jean Saddington will be asked to contact the relevant people at St Mary’s with a view to getting a page about the church, similar to those already on the site for St George’s and St Peter’s. MM undertook to let RC have a list of useful links to be added.

The question of RC’s time was also discussed. He said that he was happy to carry on for at least the time being as, while the site was still under development, it is easier if only one person is making changes. However, in the future it would probably be appropriate to ask the Parish Office to maintain the site.

It was agreed that another meeting will be arranged in June to assess progress and discuss any further improvements.
