Young Sarum Newsletter       September 2004

The Newsletter for people working with Children and Youth in Salisbury Diocese.

May God continue to bless you in your work with children and young people.

A Very Busy Term!

Well, another year has begun, and as you begin your new term of children’s work, I would like to thank you on behalf of all the children of the diocese for all that you do for them. I hope you have all had a good summer break and are now ready for some new challenges. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you plan your activities.

No doubt you will be thinking about all the things that loom at this time of year, but seemed so far away before the summer. Harvest Festival, Halloween, Remembrance Sunday, Advent and Christmas are all just round the corner.  Can we help?

Our Resource Centre has lots of books and ideas to help you plan exciting and new activities. We have books and videos, which you can borrow. I am always more than happy to talk with you about planning your events or groups.

You will find some good ideas for Harvest Festival under - useful websites on the back page

That should keep you going!

I have today bought a copy of a new book called ‘Fright the Good Fright’ which is great. It has super ideas for three different Halloween parties that you could hold on the evening of 31st October to ‘distract’ the children from other things they may get involved in. Lots of churches have started doing this, and it has proved a real success.  It’s really user friendly, has ideas for games, crafts, food and the all-important Bible teaching bit, as well as photocopiable sheets for some of the activities.  As it has material for three events, you could do one a year. It’s published by Kevin Mayhew ISBN 1-84417-293-7 at £8.99.

I have noticed some good ideas for Remembrance Sunday in the Roots for Children magazine for

November and December.  Find out about that on the roots website –see useful websites

The Christmas activities and Nativity Play books are just coming into the shops, and from all info so far look really good too.  We will be having a new selection in Resources to add to all the others.

Do pop in to see us about any of these, or phone or e-mail for more info. We also have resources for All Saints Day.  Enjoy your planning!
