St Georges Bell Ringers Group

Ringing in the 'Rounds'

Until recently (May 2005) there were just 6 bells in the tower at St Georges church. Now after 99 years of waiting the 6 bells have been augmented to 8. The whole bell-ringing chamber and bell tower were refitted in 1906 and two additional spaces were left to accommodate the additional 2 bells required to ring a peal. The 2 new bells were cast in Whitechapel on March 4th 2005 at a cost of £16,000 and were installed by Bridport based specialists Nicholson Engineers. Prior to the addition of the 2 extra bells the existing 6 bells were rehung with modern fittings and retuned in 2000 in remembrance of Diane Tocock.

The Bells will be dedicated at a special service on June 19th 2005 when members of the Guild of Ringers in the region will be at the church.
