Money
did not come easily. Of the £1,000 needed, only about £400 had been
raised by 1854. Because of the shortage of money, the refurbishment
could not proceed to completion. After the rebuilding of the East end,
the other works were done as and when funds became available.
Nevertheless, the restoration and reopening of the church was
celebrated by a special service on Thursday 10 July 1856
