Confirmation and Communion: On January 8th Jo Nield and Becky Jacknelle-Rees were Confirmed by the Bishop of Salisbury, the Rt Revd Nicholas Holtam at Salisbury Cathedral with 55 other candidates from across the Diocese. It was a splendid occasion! The next day Epiphany Sunday Becky and Jo recieved communion along with young Jonty, Gracie, Timothy and Paris who took their first communion.
The photos show Becky, Vicky and Jo, and also Becky with Bishop Nicholas.




Baptism: In January young Ruby-May Lynn was Baptised, and later this month, Lily Jayne Mclain.


This month – Sunday services as ‘normal’ – 9am Prayer Book Communion; 10.30am Sung Eucharist
3rd Sunday of the month – 19th February 6.30pm Choral Evensong.


LENT-HOLY WEEK-EASTER
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday – this year Weds 22nd February :
At St Peter’s there will be Said Eucharist at 10am (with imposition of ashes) that day.

Details of Benefice events and opportunities for Lent  will be detailed in a booklet, available in church soon – here is a sample of what will take place:
At St Peter’s during Lent – Said Eucharist on Saturdays at noon :
Sat 25th Feb – Sat 31st March inclusive.

Lent course will be run – church hall – Friday mornings 10.30am-noon as detailed below:
Vicky Thurtell (Vicar), assisted by Alison Whiting (Ordinand) will be leading this Diocesan Course "Fully Alive" inspired by the quote from St Irenaeus The Glory of God is a human being fully alive. In each session particular passages of scripture will be used to enable prayer, discussion and listening in order to grow and find meaning in spiritual and everyday life and community:
Fri 24th Feb: knowing & being known - Isaiah 43: 1-3a; Psalm 139: 1-18
Fri 2nd March:  thirsting for truth & beauty - Psalm 42; John 1: 1-18
Fri 9th March:   changing your mind - Romans 12: 1-2; Luke 24: 13-35
Fri 16th March:  being the Baptised - Romans 6: 3-11; Mark 1: 9-13
Fri 23rd March: living a life of prayer - Psalm 46: 10; Matthew 6:5-15; Psalm 142
Fri 30th March: finding we cannot be without God - Ezekiel 34: 11-16; Luke 15: 3-7; Luke 15: 11-24

Also, Thursday 1st March 12noon-1.30pm Lent Lunch (bread and soup) served in church.

And half-way throught Lent:
Mothering Sunday/Refreshment Sunday – 18th March 10.30am (one service only)
Sung Eucharist – William Byrd 5-part mass setting – the Thomas Hardye School Chapel Choir, Directed by Peter Oakes, Celebrant: The Vicar.
6.30pm Choral Evensong

Palm Sunday April 1st – Fundraising evening concert with Organist and acclaimed local musician Duncan Honeybourn – details tbc

HOLY WEEK and EASTER

Maundy Thursday 5th April 10am Said Eucharist; 7.30pm Taizé Eucharist
 
Good Friday 12noon-3pm THE THREE HOURS (come&go if you wish)
12-1 mainly silence
1-2 Contemplative worship
2-3 The way of the cross – Good Friday liturgy with choir and hymns

Holy Saturday 7th April @noon – prayer and silence in church
1pm in the hall – a talk by Sara & Derek Beauchamp (Good Friday on the Somme)
and by Capt James Briggs HMS Dorchester
Tea and Hot-Cross Buns

Easter Sunday
10am Easter Eucharist
refreshments
