Canon Richard FranklinBACK TO (THE ONE) GOD : HAS CONTEMPORARY TRINITARIANISM GONE TOO FAR? The
doctrine of the Trinity has been central in much recent theology. Since
the 1970s there has been a resurgence of interest in this doctrine and
many of the most important theologians of recent years have given it a
central position in their thought. It has been influential across the
spectrum of theological disciplines. Why has this explosion of interest
in the Trinity occurred? What is more, can all our Christian thought
and practice be structured according to Trinitarian principles? And
which comes first, Trinitarianism or Theism (belief in one God) itself?
In this paper he will explore these questions and consider
whether contemporary Trinitarianism does not in fact go too far. He
will then invite questions and comments.
In
addition to the subject outlined below, we will share with you some
thoughts on merging the Dorchester and the Weymouth theology groups
from the beginning of 2009; with three meetings a year in Dorchester
and two at St. Francis Littlemoor in Weymouth. I believe the loss of
one meeting a year here would be more than compensated by the benefits
from such a move – not least, drawing on the experience and expertise
of Richard Franklin in planning the programme.

The meeting is open to anyone from any church, or no church.
Previous meetings have been well attended. Be there!
